Cultivation begins with the germination of seeds. Mountain Pine seeds are left to soak in warm
water and are subsequently planted under specific conditions of light, warmth and moisture in a seed bed.
If all factors are maintained
at an optimal level, the first seeds bud after 14 days. They have six to nine seed leaves. The seed shell sits on top for another
14 days, after which it is discarded. The seedlings remain in the
seed bed for one year, whereas the stems become wooden . A strong, twenty to thirty centimetre-long root grows in the earth. The seedling becomes hardy, robust and less sensitive
to mechanical injuries; it can be potted. This is done at the
Allga San plant with automated potting equipment. About
1000 seedlings can be potted in an hour.
After three years in the pot, the pine will have grown to a
strong young root-ball plant. It is now capable of surviving in
the earth and is ready for the
planting.
