After the harvest material has been selected, the extraction of the mountain pine oil begins with the steam
distillation process. For this purpose, the size of the pine branches is being shortened with a forge hammer.
The crushed branches are placed into an alembic with a volumetric capacity of several cubic meters. Hot steam is focused on the needles in the alembic, which volatilizes the oil droplets being carried away on the steam particles. When the steam, which
flows out of the alembic, is liquefied again in a cooler, the essential oil that was carried along with the steam is also
liquefied.
The oil separates from the water in a separating container and swims on top, due to the fact that it is lighter than water.
